Alma Boys Basketball Gets First Win of the Year

The Alma Boys Basketball team came out victorious Thursday night against the Vikings of Bertrand High School. The boys won 49-41. Alma came out ready to play leading the Vikings 14-6 to finish the first quarter. David Ehrke clinched the last three points of the first quarter by a buzzer beater three pointer. 

Alma didn’t let up in the second quarter carrying the momentum to finish the half with a score of 25-13. Burke Boehler finished the scoring in the first half for the Cardinals with a buzzer beater three pointer of his own before heading to the locker room for halftime.

Coming out of the half the Cardinals had a slow third quarter only scoring nine points. The boys picked up the slack in the fourth quarter scoring 15 points. Bertrand came out fighting for the victory in the second half outscoring the Cardinals 28-24. The Cardinals were able to hold on to the victory over the Vikings.

Jackson McKenzie led all scorers with 18 points followed by David Ehrke with 9, Ty Heft and Burke Boehler contributed 8 a piece, and Cooper Wright chipped in six points in the paint. Ty Heft finished the game 100 percent from behind the arc and the free throw line. Jackson McKenzie came away with five steals in the win and Cooper Wright pulls down nine boards in the victory.
