Alma Boys Falls Short Against the Wildcats

The Alma Cardinal boys basketball team traveled to Axtell on Saturday, January 5th, to play against the Wildcats. To start of the game Jackson Mckenzie scored two 2-pointers and made one free throw shot making a total of 5 points for the Cardinals. Also scoring in the first quarter Carter Davis with a two-pointer and Burke Boehler with a three-pointer. Although we started our game off strong, Axtell started even stronger scoring a total of 19 points. Making the final score of one quarter Alma 10 and Axtell 19.

Exploding back with power, Jarod Ashe scored four 2-pointers adding 8 points to the board. Carter Davis and Jackson McKenzie both made a 2-pointer. Burke Boehler added two more points to the board by making two of his free throw shots. Alma’s defense held back the Wildcats and they were only able to score 12 points. Making the final score at half time 24-31, Axtell in the lead.

Coming back refreshed and prepared from half time, the Cardinals really stepped up their game. Jackson McKenzie was really stealing the spotlight this quarter by three 3-pointers and both of his free throw shots for a total of 8 points for the Cards. Carter Davis also made two 2-pointers and made one free throw. Defense was even more prepared and were ready to stop the Wildcats from scoring. The Wildcats were only able to score 12 points this quarter. Making the final score after quarter three 39-43 with Alma cutting into the Axtell lead.

With one quarter left Alma knew they had to give it all they got. Nathan Hock, Burke Boehler, Carter Davis, and Jackson McKenzie all made a 2-pointer. Jackson McKenzie also made one free throw shot upping the score to 9. Wildcats managed to find a rhythm and scored  24 points. Making the final score of this game 48-67 points.
