Alma Lady Cardinals Advance to Next Round of RPAC

The Alma girls traveled to Cambridge to take on the Southwest Roughriders in the first round of the Conference Tournament on Saturday, January 20th.  Alma had a slow start to the game but picked up the scoring towards the end of the quarter.  They outscored Southwest 12-11 in the first quarter.  Leading Alma in scoring was Tiffany Wells with 6 points.  Madalyn Brugh had 4 points and Abigail Cervera was 2-2 from the line.

Alma picked up the momentum in the second quarter and outscored Southwest 22-6.  Madalyn Brugh and Tiffany Wells dominated the inside and outside shooting game with Madalyn scoring one 2 point basket, one 3 point basket and were 3 of 4 from the line.  Tiffany scored three 2 point baskets and was 1 of 2 from the line.  Also contributing for Cardinals was Emma Smolik with 2, Abigail Cervera with 3 and Shiann Spady with 2.  The Cardinals lead 34-17 at the half.
Southwest rallied in the third quarter to outscore Alma 12-11.  Madalyn Brugh had another great quarter with 7 points coming from two 2 points baskets and one 3 point basket.  Tiffany Wells and Emma Smolik each added 2 points.  The score at the end of the 3rd quarter of play was Alma 45 to Southwest 29.
Alma outpaced the Roughriders in the 4th quarter by 1 point putting 13 points on the board.  Madalyn Brugh was 2 of 2 from the line, had one 2 point basket and one 3 point basket.  This Madalynn Brugh the leading scorer of the game with 26 points.  Tiffany Wells had 2 points this quarter and 15 points on the night.  Rounding out the scoring was Shiann Spady with 2 and Maddie Ehrke with 2 points.  The final score was Alma 58 and Southwest 41.  Alma advances to take on the Cambridge Trojans on Wednesday in Bartley.
