Alma Lady Cardinals Lose Tough Battle With the Lady Trojans

Friday, February 9th the Lady Cardinals traveled to Cambridge High School to take on the Trojans. Going into the game the two teams have met before in the RPAC Semifinals where Cambridge came out on top 49-33.  A quick two points by Maddie Brugh to start the game was a step in the right direction for the Cardinals.  Abby Cervera led the Cardinals in scoring the first quarter with four followed by Kayla Kindler with three and Tiffany Wells and Maddie Brugh with two. Alma’s 11 points were not enough to get the lead over the mighty Trojan offense trailing 11-17 after the first quarter.

The second quarter proved to be very slow only scoring 19 points combined between the two teams. Cambridge went into the locker room with a 27-20 lead over the Lady Cardinals. Dakota Hughes led the Cardinals in scoring the second quarter with four points, Abby Cervera with three, and Tiffany Wells with two.

Alma had a very strong third quarter outscoring the Trojans 13-10. The Cardinals closed the margin to four and was only down 33-37 heading into the fourth. Tiffany Wells led the third quarter scoring for the Cardinals with six, Maddie Brugh with four, Dakota Hughes with two, and Kayla Kindler with one.

With one quarter left of play only down by four, the Lady Cardinals struggled to get to the basket only scoring five points compared to Cambridge’s 22. Tiffany Wells scored all five points for the Cardinals.  Tiffany Wells led all scorers with 15, followed by Abby Cervera with seven, Maddie Brugh and Dakota Hughes with six., and Kayla Kindler with four. With the loss, the Cardinals finish the regular season with a record of 8-14.  Alma looks forward to postseason play as they take on the Bertrand Vikings.
