Alma Softball Team Struggles to Get a Win Against the Patriots


Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity fell to Adams Central 6-5 on Thursday on the final play of the game. The game was tied at five with Adams Central batting in the bottom of the eighth when Morgan Baker singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity trailed by four runs in the fourth inning, but then fought back to lower the final margin. Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity tallied five runs in the failed comeback. Janesa KringMaddie CerveraAbby CerveraSydney Scharvin, and Kringpowered the rally with RBIs. Adams Central opened up scoring in the first inning. An error scored two runs for Adams Central. Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity put up three runs in the sixth inning. The offensive onslaught by Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity was led by KringCervera, and Cervera, all knocking in runs in the inning. Madi Marker earned the win for Adams Central. She allowed nine hits and five runs over eight innings, striking out four and walking zero. Cervera took the loss for Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity. She allowed nine hits and five runs over seven and a third innings, striking out three. Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity racked up nine hits on the day. Scharvin and Kring each collected multiple hits for Southern Valley/Alma Saints VarsityScharvin went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity in hits. Adams Central tallied nine hits on the day. Baker and Brooke Meyer all managed multiple hits for Adams Central.

Thursday was a long day for Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity, falling to Adams Central 10-2. In the second game of the night. Adams Central scored four runs in the third inning. Adams Central batters contributing to the big inning included Sadie Carpenter and Savannah Harper, who all drove in runs. Carpenter led  Adams Central to victory on the pitcher’s mound. She surrendered one run on three hits over three innings, striking out four. Madi Marker threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Abby Cervera took the loss for Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity. She went four and two-thirds innings, allowing 11 runs on ten hits and striking out two. Maddie Cervera led Southern Valley/Alma Saints Varsity with two hits in three at bats. Adams Central tallied ten hits. CarpenterMorgan BakerEmilea Rogers, and Harper each racked up multiple hits for Adams Central.
