Alma Wrestlers Own the Mat in Franklin

Alma wrestlers has been very busy the last two week before the Christmas break to start things off they held a Dual Quad (12/14/18) with Arapahoe, Elwood, and Hastings St. Cecilia. Alma was able to get a win over Hastings St. Cecilia (48-9). Some outstanding performances during the duals: Daylan Russell went 3-0 with three pins and Joseph Felix has a big win over Raul Clouse (who was ranked 6th) with a pin at the 3:31 mark of the match. On Saturday the team headed to Cambridge our first year wrestlers Matteo Canals, James Dubbs, and Zach Halbert continued to improve but were unable to get a win. Josh Mapes had a good day getting two wins. Jonah Felix had two pins on the day. Ayden Molzahn and Tyson McCurdy both earned 4th place, Joseph Felix had 3 pins and took 2nd place, Daylan Russell had 4 pins and took 1st. The teamed placed 5th. After a week of practice the team headed to Harvard for their last matched before the break. The team did well placing 5th out of 13 teams. Individually they did very well. Zach Halbert earned 4th place, Jonah Felix earned 3rd place, Joseph Felix placed 3rd improved to 16-4 has 13 pins, 121 match points, and leads the team with 45 takedowns. Daylan Russell paced 1st leads the team with 18 pins and has a 19-1 record and is currently ranked 6th in class D at 182lbs, Tyson McCurdy took 2nd place with a tough match against the number 2 ranked wrestler in the state. Tyson himself is ranked 3rd, leads the team with 18 escapes, has a record of 17-4 and Tyson was also able to get his 100th career win!

The Alma Wrestling team headed to Franklin after the Christmas break and returned with hard wear. The team paced 6th over all out of 16 teams. The new wrestlers to the program continue to improve yet were unable to get any wins. Josh Mapes placed 6th. Ayden Molzahn placed 5th. Jonah Felix Placed 5th. CJ Graf placed 4th. Daylan Russell, Tyson McCurdy and Jospeh Felix all earned 2nd place. Jospeh Felix had reached a milestone by getting his 100th career win!
