Alma Wrestlers Place High at RPAC

Conference week is always a big week for the Alma Wrestlers. Alma has not had a RPAC champion since Lukas Cox won in 2012. This year we were looking to change that. The Two Freshman, first year wrestlers Josh Mapes continues to improve but was unable to get a win, Kyle Johnson was able to get one win and placed 6th. Junior Hector Lugo Wrestled three good matches then after an injury medical forfeited his last two. Sophomore Tyson McCurdy continues to wrestle at one of the toughest weight classes 152. Tyson was able to get three wins and in the match for 5th/6th place was able to beat Robert Hastings (Arapahoe) 10-3. Hastings and Tyson had met earlier in the tournament with Hastings getting the win. It is always a challenge to come back and wrestle the same person on the same day and get the win the second time, great job Tyson! Sophomore Joseph Felix had a great day wrestling at the 160lb weight class. Joseph went 3-2 on the day. He pinned two wrestlers in his pool and then lost to Chase Becker (SV). The number 1 and number 2 wrestlers form pool A and pool B wrestler each other to see who wrestles for 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th. Joseph had a very exciting match against a home town wrestler, Justin Pendleton (Med. Valley) and won 5-4. Joseph then wrestled Chase Becker again, it was a good match but Joseph and earned 2nd place. Senior Jesus Felix was able to get himself 4 wins with 3 pins before heading into the last match with number one seed Trace Doyle (Cambridge). It was another great match for the Alma team and Jesus was able to get the win with a 6-3 decision! The Alma Wrestlers will next wrestle in Red Cloud on Saturday the 28th.
