Alma Wrestlers Show Their Talent at State

Three wrestlers headed to Omaha with the goal of placing in the top 6 in the State, one Alma Wrestler Tyson McCurdy was able to do just that. His teammates will look to join Tyson on the podium next year. Joseph Felix had two very tough wrestlers in his path to a medal and unfortunately he lost to wrestlers who would place 5th and 6th. Jospeh ended his season with a 32-16 record with 24 pins, and leading the team with 62 takedowns, 18 Near fall 2 and 14 Near Fall 3.  Daylan Russell went 2-1 with one pin. One of his loses was to the 3rd place wrestler. Daylan’s record was 41-11. He now hold the second most wins in a season, second only to Lucas Cox’s 45 wins in a season. Daylan led the team with 31 pins, which is second to Corey Lienemann and Joe Flasnick who both had 32 pins in a season. He also had 52 takedowns and led the team with 20 reversals. The teams State placer Tyson McCurdy had a great end to his season earning himself 6th place after three tough days of wrestling. Tyson won his first match 3-2 over Kaleb Pofahl (Neligh-Oakdale) Tyson then lost 5-6 to Will Howell (Morrill). Tyson then won his next two match, winning 3-2 over Colin Gate (Plainview) and 7-0 over Brock Schaecher (Elkhorn Valley) securing his chance to earn a medal. Saturday Morning Tyson lost to Edwen Baptista (Friend) whom would go on to place 3rd. Tyson would see Will Howell (Morrill) once again in the finals match for 5th/6th place but was unable to get the win. Tyson is the fist medalist in 6 years. His season record was 25-16 with 12 pins, 45 takedowns, and he was able to set the new Escape record with 44 on the season. He has the career Escape record with 97 and will add to that next year! The Team and Coaches would like to thank those who supported the team this year in our clothing sale, encouraging words, and coming to watch us this year. The bar has once again been set and we will see who is ready to work to get there and beyond next season!
