Cross Country Outlook 2013

The Alma Cross Country team will look a little different this year with the addition of athletes from Southern Valley.  Alma and Southern Valley schools are cooping the program to help grow numbers in both schools.  The cooping of the schools did move Alma to Class C for Districts and State, but allowed for more runners and full teams for both boys and girls.  The cross country teams will start the season with 7 boys and 5 girls.

The boys team will be lead by Tyrell Howsden (2011 State Competitor) and Alan Varela (State qualifier in 800 and 400 in track in 2012 from Southern Valley).  The boys team will be rounded out with Jacob McGee & Kevin Lienemann from Alma and Seth Miller, Ian Coffey, & Taylor Jackman from Southern Valley.

The girls team will return two runners to this years team.  They are Miakayla Webster and Kelsey Weitzel.  In additional, we will add new runners:  Monica Bell and Jeanne Guirlin (foreign exchange student from France) from Alma and Callie Broeker from Southern Valley.

Alma will keep it’s meet schedule the same this year but will run with different teams at the UNK meet, district meet, and state meet.  Coach Kermmaode had this to say about the season, “Our numbers look good.  We have many new runners this year.  But I believe our potential for a successful season is very high and I’m excited to see how this season unfolds.”

Check back for updates through out the season!  The cross country teams kick off their season at the Gibbon Invitational on September 5th at 5:30.
