Cardinal Girls Fell Short of a Win

The Alma Cardinals girls basketball team traveled to Wilcox on December 8th. In the first quarter of the game, the Alma girls struggled to make any points. Maddie Brugh started the girls off by making 1 of 2 free throws, while Wilcox made 10 points. The score at the end of the first quarter was 1-10. The second quarter was four times better for Alma. The girls scored four points. Dakota Hughes and Abby Cervera made the four points for the team. Going into halftime, the score was 5-23.

Coming out of halftime and into the third quarter, the girls played more aggressive holding the Falcons to four points. Alma scored 6 points, Dakota Hughes, Abby Cervera, and Tiffany Wells contributed to the six points, making two points each. By the end of the third quarter, the score was 11-27.

The fourth quarter for the Alma Cardinals was the best quarter. Alma managed to score 18 points while Wilcox scored 10. Emma Smolik with 2, Maddie Brugh with 8, Dakota Hughes with 2, Abby Cervera with 3, and Tiffany Wells with 3. The Falcons scored 10 points. Seven out of the ten points was from their free throws.

Although the Cardinals worked hard in the fourth quarter, it wasn’t enough for a win. At the end of the game, the score was 29-37. Alma lost by a close 8 points. The Cardinals next game will be on Tuesday, December 11th. Boy and Girls JV will be at 4:30 with Girls Varsity at 6. Boys Varsity will follow right after the girls Varsity.
