Cardinals Take a Tough Loss to Medicine Valley

On Friday September 22nd, the Cardinal football team played against the undefeated Medicine Valley Raiders. Unfortunately, the Raiders left Alma undefeated, even though the Cardinals pushed hard throughout the game.  The Cardinals held the Raiders to one touchdown in the first quarter.  Medicine Valley intercepted a pass from Burke Boehler and subsequently on the next play went 63 yards for the touchdown by Landon Lenz. 

The 2nd quarter was all Medicine Valley.  They scored with 6:08 left in the quarter with a Ryan Klintworth 18 ward run and a pass from Lenz to Klintworth for the extra points.  With 18 second remaining before half Medicine Valley scored again with a 2 yard run.  This put the score 22-0 at the half time break. 

The 3rd quarter was a low scoring affair with Medicine Valley scoring the only touchdown.  Reid Stout scored with a 9 yard run.   The pass failed so the score would be 28-0 at the end of the quarter. 

Kaleb Kindler score the first touchdown for the team and ran the two point conversion.  This made the score 28-8. This was followed by two more touchdowns for Medicine Valley.  Burke Boehler connected with Cooper Wright with 4:08 left in the game for a 33 yard touch down.  The run failed.  Medicine Valley scored on a two yard run with :50 left in the game to put the final score to 14-50. 

Alma played hard all game.  They had 327 total yards of offense to the 328 of Medicine Valley.  They had 60 yards of passing offense to 33 for Medicine Valley.  Kaleb Kindler rushed a total of 183 yards.  Tyson McCurdy had a total of 53 yards of offense. David Ehrke had four punts for a 160 yards. Daylan Russell had one punt return for12 yards. The Cardinals struggled with 3 interceptions and 7 penalties for 45 yards.  The next football game will be in Cambridge at 3 p.m.
