Lady Cardinals Unable to Overcome Cambridge Third Quarter Run

The girls basketball team traveled to Southwest for the East Quarter Finals. The girls played Cambridge and lost 49-33. In the first quarter, Emma Smolik and Kayla Kindler both scored a field goal. Maddie Brugh had an amazing first quarter scoring one field goal and three 3 pointers. Alma outscored Cambridge in the first quarter, Alma had 15 points while Cambridge had 11.
For the second quarter, Abby Cervera scored all the points for the quarter. Abby made one field goal, one three pointer, and three out of six free throws. Alma’s defense fell apart, allowing Cambridge to score seventeen points. Going into half time, the score between Alma and Cambridge, was 28-23 with Cambridge up by five.
Coming out of half time, Alma was feeling confident with the close score. Unfortunately, none of Alma’s shot’s would fall into the hoop. Alma scored a total of four points in the fourth, and allowed Cambridge to score 15 points. Maddie Brugh scored a field goal, Abby Cervera and Kayla Kindler Kindler made one free throw.
Going into the fourth the score was 43-27. Emma Smolik scored a field goal, Abby Cervera score 3 points, one being a field goal and the other being a free throw, and Kayla Kindler made a one point free throw. Alma scored 6 points in the fourth quarter playing against a triangle and 2. The Trojans put man defense on Wells and Brugh to keep them shut down. At the end of the game, it was full of good sportsmanship and competition. The Alma Cardinals will play next on Thursday, January 25th at 6:00 p.m.
