Northern Valley’s High Power Offense Downs the Cardinals

Alma traveled to Almena, KS to take on the Northern Valley Huskies on January 2nd.  Alma was outscored 10-4 in the first quarter.  Leading the scoring for Alma was Madalyn Burgh with 2 and Tiffany Wells with 2.

Alma had more balanced scoring in the 2nd quarter.  They had to the Northern Valley 12.  Leading the Cardinals was Abby Cervera with 4 and Tiffany Wells with 4.  Also scoring for the Cardinals was Madalyn Brugh with 2.  Paige Baird was Northern Valley had 14 of the Northern Valley first-half points.  The left the score 22-14 at the half.

The 3rd quarter had the Cardinals struggling from the free throw line.  They were 3 of 6 shooting 50%.  Alma scored 8 points to the Northern Valley 24.  SCoring for the Cardinals was Madalyn Brugh who was 100% from the free throw line with 2-2.  Dakota Hughes made one 3 pointer.  Abby Cervera was 1-1 from the free throw line.  Tiffany Wells missed two free throws but made one basket for 2 points. Score at the end of the 3rd quarter was 22-46.

The 4th quarter saw Madalyn Brugh hit some field goals.  She made 6 points from the field and missed one free throw.  Maddie Cervera missed both free throws and Dakota Hughes at one field goal for 2 points.  Madalyn Brugh lead Alma in scoring with 12 points, Tiffany Wells with 8 and Abby Cervera and Dakota Hughes with 5 points each.   Alma lost to Northern Valley with a final score of 30-61.

Alma defense was lead by Madalyn Burgh with 4 blocks and 8 defensive rebounds.  She was followed by Tiffany Wells with 4 defensive rebounds and 2 blocks.  The team had 8 steals on the night.  Emma Smolik lead the offensive rebounds with 3.  This moves the Alma record to 3 and 8.
