Southern Valley Offense Stuns the Cardinals

The Cardinals Girls basketball team played Southern Valley Feb 2 in Alma.  In the first quarter, Dakota Hughes led the team in scoring with 3 points and behind Hughes was Abby Cervera, and Kayla Kindler with 2 points.  Southern Valley had the hot hand and won the first quarter with a score of 7-22.

Abby Cervera ended the second quarter in scoring with 3 points and behind Cervera was Maddie Brugh with 2 points and Shiann Spady with 1 point. Alma was able to keep the pace in the second quarter was only outscored 9-11.  They were unable to close the gap and went into the locker room at half down 16-33.

The scoring trouble continued for the Cardinals in the third quarter.  Alma was led in scoring by Kayla kindler scoring 3 points and Maddie Brugh scoring 2 points.  Southern Valley’s high powered offense outscored the Cardinals 5-18.  This had the Cardinals behind 21-51 and the end of the third.

Alma was able to score a few more points in the 4th but defensively were unable to stop the Eagles.   Maddie Brugh had 6 points and Maddie Ehrke with 2 points.  The stunning offense by Southern Valley won the game with an ending score of 29-65.  Alma plays Cambridge this week before beginning postseason play in Cambridge next week.
