SVA Saints Varsity Loses Lead Early In Defeat

SVA Saints Varsity watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 19-3 loss to Grand Island Central Catholic on Saturday. Grand Island Central Catholic scored on a walk by S Stratman, a single by B Boucher, a single by M Maly, a single by  C Huxtable, and a home run by K Paulk in the first inning. The SVA Saints Varsity struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Grand Island Central Catholic, giving up 19 runs. Grand Island Central Catholic opened up scoring in the first inning. Stratman drew a walk, scoring one run. SVA Saints Varsity put up three runs in the third inning. Pj Dubbs had an RBI home run in the inning to lead the run scoring. Grand Island Central Catholic scored nine runs in the fourth inning. Grand Island Central Catholic’s big inning was driven by a single by A Witmer, a home run by J Zehendner, and an error on a ball put in play by Paulk. A Palma earned the victory in the circle for Grand Island Central Catholic. She surrendered three runs on two hits over four innings, striking out eight. Kynlee Marquez took the loss for SVA Saints Varsity. She went three and a third innings, allowing 13 runs on 11 hits, striking out one and walking one. SVA Saints Varsity hit one home run on the day. Dubbs had a dinger in the third inning. Dubbs led SVA Saints Varsity with two hits in two at-bats. Grand Island Central Catholic tallied 14 hits. Palma, Paulk, Maly, Witmer, and Zehendner all managed multiple hits for Grand Island Central Catholic. Palma went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Grand Island Central Catholic in hits. Grand Island Central Catholic didn’t commit a single error in the field. Maly had the most chances in the field with eight.
