Volleyball Girls Defeat Raiders on Parents Night

The Medicine Valley Raiders came to town for a Spirit Week matchup.  The Jr. Varsity started the night off with a win in 2 straight sets.  Alma won 25-18 and 25-14.  Alma’s serving was tough for the Raiders to handle which helped get the Cardinals get out to a lead.  This was the best serving game to date with the Cardinals only missing 5 serves or less on the night as a team.  The young Cardinals were very successful at the net and in the back row helping lead the Junior Varsity to its second win of the season.  The JV returns to play Tuesday, September 26th in Alma.

Between the JV and Varsity games we honored the three seniors.  The seniors are Jadyn Heckenlively, Madalyn Brugh, and Emma Smolik.  Also honored between games was Jadyn Heckenlivey for reaching a career record of 1000 kills and Madalyn Brugh for reaching a career record of 1000 assists.  Both reached these records at the Blue Hill/Superior Triangular.  They received framed pictures from the team.

The Alma Varsity started the game with a couple of hitting errors but rallied quickly to win the 1st set 25-14.  The hot hitting of Jadyn Heckenlivley with 15 kills help propel the Cardinals to win sets 2 and 3 by scores of 25-17 and 25-12.  Tiffany Wells also had 9 kills and Emma Smolik had 4 kills.  Serving was solid for the Cardinals with Dakota Hughes and Madalyn Brugh with 4 aces each.  Madalyn Brugh had 28 assists.  Defensively Dakota Hughes had 18 digs and Jadyn had 4 blocks.

Alma continues its season with the Freshman/Sophomore tournament in Alma September 26th and travels to take on the top-rated Overton Eagles in Overton on September 28th.  This is a triangular with Southwest and Overton.
