Alma Freshman/Sophomores Boys Fall to Holdrege

Monday January 7, the Alma Freshman/Sophomore played the dusters of Holdrege High School.

Holdrege jumped out to a quick lead in the first quarter leading 15-7 heading into the second. Kaden Broeker led the Dusters in first quarter points with eight points. Tanner Heckenlively led the Cardinals with three points. Owen Jackson and Antonio Hudson also contributed two points for the Cardinals.

Alma responded with a huge second quarter to close the Duster lead 29-26 heading into the half. Jason Stenka led the Cardinals with five points. Ehren Smolik added four, Grant McQuay and Antonio Hudson scored three points, and Aj Russell and Tanner Heckenlively finished out the scoring with two points. Dashton Edgren led the Dusters with seven. Hudson Reed added four points and Kaden Broeker closed the Duster scoring with three points.

Alma struggled the third quarter only scoring two points. Antonio Hudson scored the two points for the Cardinals. Holdrege responded strong from halftime scoring 13 points to extend the lead to 42-28. Edgren led the Dusters with nine points. Reed and Broeber also scored two points apiece.

Alma fought hard but it wasn’t enough to get the Cardinals the win. Broeker led the Dusters in the fourth quarter with six points to finish the game with 19 points. Edgren added five points to finish with 26 points. Russell led the Cardinals with three points. Stenka, Heckenlively, Jackson, and Hudson all scored two points in the quarter. Smolik also added one point off a free throw.

Antonio Hudson led the Cardinals with nine points. Followed by Stenka and Heckenlively with seven, Russell and Smolik scored five points, Jackson added four points. McQuay scored three points to round up the Cardinals scoring.

Alma lost the game 40-58 to a tough Holdrege squad. Alma will be back in action Thursday January 10 in Eustis Farnum and Friday January 11 in Alma against Hitchcock County.
