Cardinal Spotlight - Tanner Wernsman, Head Wrestling Coach
Tanner is from Arapahoe, NE where he graduated from high school. He then attended and graduated from Dakota Wesleyan University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in sport, exercise, and wellness. While there he competed in wrestling for 5 years. When Tanner is not coaching or watching wrestling he enjoys hunting with his two dogs Chester and Libby, as well as fishing in the summertime. Cardinal Spotlight - Madalyn Brugh, 4th Grade
Madalyn grew up in Alma, Nebraska then attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She graduated with a degree in Elementary Education, and student taught at Hamlow elementary in Waverly. During her time in college, she was an assistant coach for the Pius X High School volleyball program.
Her love for teaching began back in high school when she would help in her sister Jenna Christensen’s classroom, and now she is so excited to be back in the same school where her passion for teaching first began!
Madalyn is looking forward to being a part of the school that gave her so much during her high school career. The energetic and supportive community has a major role for her to be back. She is thrilled to add volleyball and basketball into her first year! Her goal is for the girls, the community, and herself to bring an energetic attitude every time they step onto the court.

Cardinal Spotlight - Candace Sage, 6th Grade
Candace lives in Phillipsburg, KS, with her husband, Scott, whom she will have been married to for 32 years on the first day of school, August 11. Candace is a graduate of Phillipsburg High School. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with an emphasis in science and math from Kansas State University and her Masters in Elementary Administration from Fort Hays State University. Scott is a lawyer in Phillipsburg. They have two sons, and as of Saturday, July 16, she now has a daughter-in-law, Hillary. Stephen is a graduate of PHS and has a bachelor of science from University of Kansas and Doctorate of Pharmacy from KU as well. He and his wife Hillary live in Hill City, KS, where he is the pharmacist and co-owner of the Hill City Pharmacy. Hillary has a Bachelor of Science in Business from KU and is currently working on her Masters in elementary education at Fort Hays State University. She hopes to be able to teach middle school math. Sam, her youngest son, also a graduate of PHS has a Bachelor of Science in Construction Science and Masters in Business Administration with an emphasis in finance from Kansas State University. After working a year in the construction business, he has returned to school working on his Masters in Accounting, hoping to sit for the CPA exams starting next summer.
She started out teaching from 1989-1991 at Field Club Elementary in the first grade for Omaha Public Schools. Since that time she has been an elementary teacher Wilson Elementary in Hays, KS. She taught several different grades and subjects in her tenure there.
Candace is so excited to become an Alma Cardinal. While their address is in Phillipsburg, they have a house on the lake at Taylor Manor. They enjoy their summer weekends at the lake and love the community of Alma and the surrounding areas. Everyone is always friendly at the restaurants, grocery stores, shops, and the UMC church they attend in Republican City. She is looking forward to officially meeting the students and staff in Alma. Now that the wedding celebration has successfully been completed, she is ready to focus on the new school year. It's going to be a wonderful new adventure! Cardinal Spotlight - Hannah Robison, Title I Reading
Hannah Robison is originally from Benedict, Nebraska. She now lives on a farm by Orleans with husband Charlie and daughters, Hadley (4) and
Lainey (7 months). She received her Bachelor's degree from Nebraska Wesleyan University and her Master's degree from the College of Saint Mary. This will be Hannah's seventh year in education. She is excited to become a Cardinal and to learn from the students, work with the staff, and be more involved in the community! Welcome to the Cardinal family, Hannah! #ProudToBeACardinal

Cardinal Spotlight - Amy Donley, Speech-Language Pathologist
Amy lives southwest of Wilcox with her husband and four kids. John is an engineer for Husker Power Products. Emma is a senior at Wilcox-Hildreth this year, Thomas a freshman, Elsie a fifth grader, and Jameson a first grader. She grew up on a farm by Wilcox and graduated from Wilcox High School. She received both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in speech-language pathology from UNL. Amy worked for ESU 11 for nine years, and during that time she served Alma Public Schools as a speech pathologist from 2008 to 2017. She is excited to be back in Alma! The staff is great to work with and the kids are awesome! Welcome back to the Cardinal family, Amy! #ProudToBeACardinal

Cardinal Spotlight - Mattie Kreifels, Elementary Music
Mattie grew up in Loomis, Nebraska. After graduation she attended Wayne State College where she met her husband, Garrett. She graduated from Wayne State College with a degree in music education. Before graduation she did her student teaching here in Alma, which is one of the reasons she knew she wanted to be a Cardinal!
Mattie and her husband recently moved back to the area so they could be the directors at Camp Joy. They are excited to grow their family with a baby boy this winter. Mattie is excited to be a Cardinal because of the supportive and caring family atmosphere that the school and community provide. She couldn't imagine a better place to start their family. Congratulations to Linden Biskup on being selected as a member of the 2022 NAfME All-National Mixed Choir as an Alto 2. This is Linden’s 3rd year in a row being selected for this prestigious group! #ProudToBeACardinal


Cardinal Spotlight - Josh Quinn; Secondary English, Assistant Boys Basketball Coach
Josh grew up in and graduated from high school in Mead, NE, and is now living here in Alma. He attended Hastings College where he recently graduated in May with his bachelors degree in 7-12 English Education. He also played on the Hastings College Men's Basketball team for three years.
Josh's parents are actually both educators as well. His dad is the superintendent in his hometown at Mead Public Schools, and his mom is a Kindergarten teacher at Mead as well. He has an older brother who is in the United States Army, and his younger sister is attending Northwest Missouri State College.
Josh is excited to be at Alma Public Schools because he looks forward to building strong relationships with his students, the faculty, and the whole Alma community. School and community are two very important aspects to him! Welcome to the Cardinal family, Josh! #ProudToBeACardinal
